iServe || this Saturday!

9 05 2008

Just a reminder that we have an iServe event coming up on Saturday.  We will be doing clean-up and landscaping around the church in preparation for the summer in honor of Mother’s Day.  The work will be getting kicked off at 9am at the Life Center - but breakfast will be served at 8am.  It’s going to be a great time - we hope to see you there!

Also, just one more reminder that we do NOT have FUSE on Sunday night (May 11th) due to Mother’s Day.  Make sure you spoil your mothers!

Last night we continued to discuss purpose in our “Welcome to the Planet” series. After looking at how we matter in the body of Christ last week, we started looking at how we can make a difference. It starts by examining the instructions Jesus offers in Matthew 28:16-20 (you might know it as the great commission). How can we reach the world? We can start by praying for it…

Students were invited to explore newspapers and magazines detailing current events and then select one to pray for. After praying for their event, they marked it as their own and pinned it up on a board in the front of the room (you can stop by the Loft this week to see what things mattered to students). We hope this activity raised some awareness of some issues at home and around the world, and inspired students to pray for them.

A couple questions to discuss this week at home:

What’s happening around the world this week - what are the big headlines? How do you think God feels about these events?

What does Jesus say (in the Bible) about how we should respond to people in need?

Pick one event or situation in the news that doesn’t sit well with you - how can you make a difference today?

***THERE IS NO FUSE ON MOTHER’S DAY.  WE HOPE YOU ALL ENJOY TIME WITH YOUR FAMILIES!***
